Beyond Dal-Chawal: Why Forest Side Farm is Uttarakhand’s Most Unexpected Gourmet Retreat

Most travelers heading to a Himalayan homestay have resigned themselves to a specific culinary fate: three days of basic dal, roti, and sabzi. While we love the simplicity of local food, we believe your palate shouldn't have to take a vacation from excitement just because you’ve gone into the wild. At Forest Side Farm, we are staging a quiet revolution. Here, the scent of wood-fired pizza dough fermenting in the morning air competes with the sizzle of a sautéed vegetables and chicken at dinner. If you’ve ever wished for a sanctuary where "Slow Living" meets a "Great Variety International Food" menu, your table is ready.

We call it "The Culinary Rebel" because we refuse to believe that staying at a farm means compromising on variety and freshness. While other homestays stick to the standard, we celebrate the global:
The Wood-Fired Oven: We don't just bake bread; we craft experiences. From well fermented loaves to artisanal pizzas, our flame-kissed crusts are a guest favourite.

Unexpected Variety: It is rare to find a farmstay serving authentic Hummus and Pita bread, Sizzlers, or gourmet Pasta always prepared fresh. Yet, here they are, served on our first-floor deck overlooking the hills.

The Kumaoni Heart: When we do go local, we go deep. Our Mutton Handi is slow-cooked to perfection, and our Kumaoni lunches feature herbs and dals grown right here on our 2.5-acre organic farm.

Hyper-Local Ingredients: Your salad was likely growing in our soil two hours before it reached your plate. Our spices are ground in-house, and our honey comes from our very own bees.
When the sun dips below the Kumaoni hills, our kitchen doesn't hum with the mechanical clatter of a hotel; it breathes with the focused, quiet care of a home that loves to host. Every meal here is an intentional act of hospitality. We don't just feed our guests; we invite them into a culinary story that spans from our organic soil to your plate. If you are tired of the "standard" and hungry for the "authentic," our table is waiting. We only host six guests at a time—ensuring that every bite you take is a blessing, and every meal is a memory. Are you ready to taste the slow life?
