Have you ever arrived at a beautiful, peaceful destination, sat down on a gorgeous deck, looked out at the mountains, and realized your brain was still spinning at 100 miles per hour? You’re physically in nature, but mentally, you’re still checking an email layout, looking at spreadsheets, or replying to a Slack message in your head.
We see this all the time with our guests during their first 24 hours at Forest Side Farm. It’s a real psychological hump, and we call it the "city hangover." Your mind has become so used to constant notifications, traffic, and high-velocity stress that absolute stillness actually feels a bit uncomfortable at first. When our founder, Hemanshu Joshi, chose to transition from a fast-paced digital marketing career to build this organic sanctuary, navigating that exact mental friction was a major part of the journey.
That’s why the first evening on our 2.5-acre property is so incredibly special. As the sun dips behind the Kotabagh ridge, the light in the valley softens into a deep, quiet amber. The ambient noise completely changes—the birds wrap up their day, the crickets take over, and the wind blowing through the forest canopy gets just a little bit cooler.
We encourage everyone who visits us to treat this exact hour as their official "unswitch." Put the phone face down in your room. Don’t try to force yourself to read a heavy book or aggressively practice "mindfulness." Just sit out on the porch with a warm mug of our home-grown chamomile tea, watch how the evening shadows move across our rustic, unfinished walls, and let your nervous system naturally catch up to your body.
It takes about a day for that transition to happen, but once it does, the rest of your vacation becomes a completely different, deeper experience. Our entire philosophy as a slow living farm stay brand in Uttarakhand is built around this unhurried pace. We intentionally don’t offer room service or packed sightseeing checklists because we want to protect this quiet pocket of stillness for you.
If you are curious about how this lifestyle shapes our daily routines, you can read more about our hands-on philosophy on the Forest Side Farm Main Website, or dive deeper into how we cultivate our food forest in our previous piece detailing our regenerative organic farming methods. It takes time to slow down, but we promise the reset is entirely worth it.
